Sounds of the Bay
The North Bay Branch of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association) will be hosting the annual provincial convention. I am one of several clinicians who have been invited to present at this year’s convention. My seminar will take place on Sunday, July 20, 2008, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Clarion Resort.

Session Title:
        From Fact to Fabulous: Exploring Music History with
          Substance and Style!

Description:
        Tired of lifeless facts? Are listless students getting you
        down? Do you need a creative makeover?

        Watch and listen, as we explore selected works from the
        Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, using the “cool
        tools” of our students: DVDs and the internet.  Unleash the
        power of that remote control! Don’t be afraid to tame that
        computer mouse! Hear and see for yourself how music
        history has just gotten a whole lot better – for them,
        and for you!

New PERSPECTIVES^® ... A New Voice!
This month marks the much-anticipated launch of the new Celebration Series PERSPECTIVES® piano repertoire books by the Frederick Harris Music Co. As a complement to these fine volumes – indispensable tools for both teachers and students – FHMC has produced a set of CD recordings, featuring performances by leading Canadian artists. It was a pleasure for me to serve as the announcer on these recordings, although being asked to read titles in eight different languages was not without its challenges!
